KATO’ by Hiroshi Kato crafts premium selvedge denim inspired by the classic vintage blue jean. Their Premium Japanese 4-Way Stretch Selvedge denim story starts in Japan where the fabric is developed at one of the oldest denim mills. KATO blends a unique 4 way stretch material with selvedge denim to create a specific amount of stretch and comfort you wouldnt typically get with selvedge denim. This 360 degree of stretch gives the wearer comfort from every angle no matter what they are doing. KATO’s 4-Way Stretch selvedge fabric is woven using vintage shuttle looms. Rolls of denim fabric are then brought into the workshop in Los Angeles where each pair goes through a 60 to 90 day process of cut, sew, washing and testing. With 4 fits available in multiple weights and washes, the style options are endless.
The 12.5 ounce, 100% cotton denim does not have stretch but it will break in and mold to you, making it a pair you will want to wear for years. KATO wanted these jeans to be vintage down to the core details, so they introduced a button fly, using donut style laurel leaf buttons, which have been acid dyed to give them an authentic aged look. They also added a pop of color with a red leather patch, their own twist on the original.
This wash emulates denim that has been worn for several years. Close attention has been payed to the slight distressing of the front and back pocket edges, to reproduce the wear seen on authentic vintage jeans.
